A Dream 23 Years in the Making
Since the founding of the Medina County SPCA in 1985,
thousands of abused, abandoned, neglected and injured
animals have been cared for and placed in loving permanent
homes. The work continues and is ever-increasing as our
county grows. The workload has exceeded the foster home
system we have used in the past. Boarding costs incurred via
vet clinics and kennels have placed a financial burden on the
MSPCA that has made it increasingly difficult for the
organization to operate in the black.
To continue this work into the future, the MCSPCA is in need
of a central animal care facility that will help us care for more
animals at one location, reducing costs significantly while
offering many other benefits.
The MCSPCA has a two-step solution to this challenge:
1) We have developed a temporary Animal Care Facility at a
leased space at 245 S. Medina Street in the City of Medina for
use as an interim animal care facility until enough money can
be raised to build a permanent facility. The ACF is open to the
public on Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m. and Thursday from noon-
2 p.m. and by appointment.
2) Medina County Commissioners have awarded the MCSPCA
a 30-year land lease on a four-acre parcel on Deerview Lane,
at a nominal cost of $1 per year. It will be up to the MSPCA to
construct a building on that land in which to house animals,
base operations and increase educational and community
programing in the future. With the current economic climate,
it may be some time before we can achieve this goal, but our
interim facility will provide a much-needed base of operations
in the meantime.
Capital Fund Campaign
The Medina SPCA is conducting a Capital Fund Campaign both
to help fund the interim animal care facility and for
construction of the permanent facility. Money is needed now
to purchase equipment needed to house and care for
animals: cages, medical equipment, bathing stations exterior
runs, etc. These items will be transferred to our permanent
facility once that is built.
