The mission of the Medina County SPCA is to care for and protect animals in our community from abuse, cruelty, neglect, injury and abandonment.

Our Mission

Founded in 1985, the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc., is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit humane society, locally governed by a volunteer board of directors. Our Federal ID is 34-1507786.

Like most animal shelters in the United States, we rely entirely on our program revenue, private donations, and fundraising to sustain our operations, provide care for our shelter animals and serve the community. Despite a similar name, we are not affiliated with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the Humane Society of the United States.

Our staff and volunteers work to prevent and investigate animal neglect and mistreatment when cases are reported and promote animal welfare within Medina County.

We employ a Humane Officer who responds to calls about animals in need and assists local law enforcement agencies in investigations. In addition to our Humane Officer being a law enforcement official, our agency has prosecutorial powers (per Ohio’s animal cruelty laws). Since the inception of the Medina County SPCA, several cases of animal abuse and neglect in the county have been successfully prosecuted.

We also educate the public on animal welfare issues through our Humane Education Program and support animal-friendly legislation.

The Medina County SPCA offices and animal shelter are currently located at 8790 Guilford Road in Seville on a 13-acre property, consisting of a 4,000 square-foot shelter/kennel and a residence equipped with an animal quarantine area and storage space.

As the leading animal welfare organization in Medina County, we remain committed to protecting and caring for those animals who are unable to protect themselves.
